Sri tanjung
Sinduraja was a harmonious kingdom, but the king, sri silakrama,
suffered from recurring migraine. he sent his most trusted servant,
ki sidapaksa to fetch medicine from ida begawan tambapetra in
prangalas. Near that village, sidapaksa entered a very beautiful
garden and feeling at peace stood still a while, not realizing
that ida begawan's daughter sri tanjung was observing him. thinking
that he might be suicidal, she went to tell her father and mother
ni sri wani. ida begawan recognized his nephew, invited him
in, and introduced his daughter sri tanjung. they fell in love
and soon married.
Bank in sinduraja, the king heard that ki sidapaksa had returned
the medicine, but with a young woman of unmatched beauty. to
verify the story, he sent two of his servant, ni condong and
meme bayan, who were astonished by the radiance of sidapaksa
wife. he told them : " i did not receive any medicine but
was told that the king is advised to prepare banten sesayut
( special offering ) for the pedanda that will come every day
to protect and heal him."
That night he dreamed that his wife drowned as they were playing
in the ocean. knowing this meant she was in danger, she wanted
to go back to the safeguard of her father, but he reassured
her that he would always protect her. he was then summoned to
the king who, out of envy for his wife, ordered sidapaksa to
go and get gold and white cloth in kendran, home of sang hyang
indra. back home, disheartened he told his wife : " this
trip will take 7 years ! " she comforted him : " please
don't be sad, with ananta kusuma ( flying robe ), a gift from
sang hyang widhi bestow to my father by dewi dhurga in gandamayu,
this long journey will reduced to 7 dyas."
While sidapaksa was gone, the king came to visit sri tanjung
pretending he needed betel palm leaves. he then asks her to
treat him, to which she politely refused. frustrated he told
her. " your husband died on his way to kendran. let me
marry and care for you." overwhelmed she replied : "
i would ratter die than to marry you !" shocked he left
without another word.meanwhile in kendran, sidapaksa was amazes
by the sight of so many sumptuous dedari, then escorted by one,
was given audience to dewa indra and he presented the letter
from sang raja. indra, furious said : " how dare you challenged
me ! guards, ! kill him ! " sidapaksa, started , begged
for mercy but to no avail and, in despair called out the name
of his grandfather sang nakula. realizing sidapaksa was of raja
pandu's lineage, indra released him believing he had not come
to ruin kendran as the letter said. indra feeling that sidapaksa's
wife might be in danger, advised him to hurry home with the
gold and white cloth. back in puri sindu, sidapaksa presented
the gifts to the king who was very started to see him alive
and well. sang raja thanked him but also told him that sri tanjung
had come to the palace to tease him. incensed, sidapaksa went
home and without a word, he dragged his wife to the kuburan
( cemetery ) and took her life. coming to his senses he realized
what he had done, left the body and ran home. he later went
crazy, sunning around pointlessly, calling her name repeatedly.
Meanwhile, dewi dhurga came to eat the new body, but feeling
great warmth emanating from it, she checked it's soul to see
whose it was. realizing this was an offspring of empu tambapetra,
who had helped her before, she revived the body. sri tanjung,
shaken returned to her village and told the story to her father.
understanding he healed sidapaksa, who had wondered into the
village. sri tanjung forgave him but asked for a favor from
him : " you must kill sang raja silakrama ."
With the help of raja pande and darmawangsa pandawa, sidapaksa
conquered puri sinduraja and became king with sri tanjung as
his queen. they lived in harmony their kingdom ounce again safe
and peaceful.
